Well the Puxing is on its way so hopefully you'll have one more person to talk to you... although at this rate it might just be from the comfort of my house as I wait for the weather to improve!

Don't worry Melise, I am fully confident that the weather will improve...

It'll be when I'm out of the country of course but it'll improve... ;)

How many more years before I can retire to Spain?

Rob - You appear to have initiated the longest thread of the DHPC website. Perhaps it's the new website or the weather, but well done anyway. Perhaps we should award a trophy... ;)

My mum always said i was destined for great things.

A trophy would be great... or a pint. I'll be honest, i'll take a half! :)

Its interesting reading the info from different people, i have just recentley qualified cp Hill Rating, with Pete Gallagher from Sunsoar, i have just posted my details and Joining fee to the club,As a new boy to the sport, My ultimate goals are to Thermal to altitude and do some XC flights, and i too had this grand plan to purchase all of the right gear, I did most of my EP and CP in Morocco with Sunsoar, and we all had a great time, upon my return, i purchased, Harness, Fides wing,Flying Suit,Speed bar and 2 two way radios from Argos, I am in need of a reserve and alti vario, and i was considering just going all out and buying the CoMo vario with GPS, as i thought, if ive got it then i shouldnt go far wrong, ive looked at the iphone 4, which is brilliant, but when you work out the cost of buying it and the cost per month Contract, aswell as any add ons, its begins to sink in that you will probably be paying in excess of £1000 for the duration of the contract, for which you will be able to well afford the best flying kit at much less the cost. The flying suit is excellent but by god its hot when your ground handling or just making a mess of ya take off's, so from now on ime only wearing it when i know for definate ime going airbourne or in the winter, but ideal when its cold and your sitting around the hill, reading the weather correctley can be so difficult and knowing how to best pick a site location to travel to. i am also off to the Alps with Sunsoar as part of my Post CP in september, so i know, that i will gain some vital tuition, so what days are the coaching days with the Club,

Hi Jim.

Welcome to the club. It's a bit bewildering when you first start, what with all the equipment about and not really knowing when and where to go flying. It sounds like you've got most of the stuff that you need. A reserve is a must, and a vario is not essential but very helpful if you want to get thermalling.

Getting the weather right is very much a hit and miss affair but there a plently of pilots about to help you.
Firstly the club runs coaching days headed by our chief coach Sean Hodgson. This is where pilots like yourself go out together and get a site and weather briefing and some guidance on flying. You can contact him on: seanhodgen9@aol.com

If you post here on the forum, or in the shoutbox before potential flying weather, usually someone will respond with some advice.

Also you could join the Speckout mailing list which is a group of local pilots who can send an email to the whole group using a singular email address. To join go to: http://speckout.com/mailman/listinfo/fly_speckout.com

The first club night is on 2nd September at The Dyneley Arms (LS21 1ET)
