Committee Vacancies – Your Club Needs You

We can only exist as a club if members volunteer some of their spare time to help run the club and to make decisions on your behalf.  We still don’t have a Newsletter Editor.  That’s a sad reflection on a club with a proud history and tradition, but one that we can live with: we can pass any important messages via the website.

Of more concern is that fact that, after 3 years of dedicated service as Treasurer, Marek will be stepping down at the AGM in December.  This is a key appointment: we simply can’t operate as a club without a Treasurer.  We're actively seeking a volunteer early so that he or she can understudy Marek in the preparation of the accounts prior to the AGM.  You don’t need any specific accounting experience or qualifications; just some spare time and common sense.  We use a free accounting package called GnuCash which is pretty easy to get to grips with.

Helen will also be standing down as Trophies Officer.  This is one on the less onerous jobs on the committee and Helen has had the spare capacity to organise the annual Farmers’ Dinner.  It would be great, but not essential, if her replacement could do the same.

None of these 3 appointments requires a great deal of flying experience.  Indeed, a novice might get more out of it than they put in.  The committee meets once every 2 months for about 2 hours on a weekday evening in Otley.  You get to learn about how the club works, what is going on, and to mix with more experienced pilots.  You even get to influence club decisions.

Please help us to run the club.  If you want to know more about any committee post, without making any commitment, please email me at: Turn on JavaScript!
